Katie Scherrer, MLIS, RYT is yoga and mindfulness teacher living in Lexington, KY. Katie’s specialty is bringing these practices to life for children and the adults who care for them. She is the author of Stories, Songs, and Stretches! Creating Playful Storytimes with Yoga and Movement, published by the American Library Association (2017). Drawing on her unique experience as a children’s librarian, yoga teacher, and early childhood education trainer, Katie has developed the Stories, Songs, and Stretches! certification program. This program trains participants to use yoga-inspired movement intentionally to help preschool and early elementary age children develop physical literacy, early literacy, and social-emotional skills. Katie is one of the creators of the Be Project, which began in 2016 to bring mindfulness to teachers and PreK-12th grade students in rural Kentucky. In addition to traveling around the country offering training, Katie can often be found teaching yoga and mindfulness to kids of all ages in libraries, schools, preschools, and after-school programs.
